Whites Transport Services ridicules ParkingEye again over false fines

Like many international hauliers, Whites Transport Services has had to deal with numerous obstacles in the last few years, whether it be high fuel costs or post-Brexit paperwork. However, another rather unique challenge Transport Manager Pete White has had recently is finding new ways to embarrass ParkingEye over its continual issuing of false parking fines.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Whites Transport Services has a depot located very close to Membury Services on the A4, where the ParkingEye company are responsible for ensuring parking is paid.

This has resulted in the haulier receiving false parking charges from ParkingEye on no less than 8 occasions in the last 18 months.

On most of those occasions, White has responded to the false charges by sending letters explaining the issue and mocking the company at the same time.

The first of those letters contained a threat to take legal action unless a payment for £100 was made. The £100 figure referred to in the letter, as well as the lower £60 fee if paid within 14 days, were ironically included as these are the same terms Parking Eye insist on when dishing out their fines.

On each occasion after receiving the letters from Mr White, ParkingEye has eventually confirmed the cancellation of the parking fines in bland, templated and unpersonalised responses.

Despite the fact ParkingEye is well aware Whites Transport Services’ trucks do not park at its facility, it keeps dishing out the false fines. One presumes this is down to a largely automated process and that the employee who sends the letters is unaware of the issue.

While the fines have all been rescinded so far, following them up can be a nuisance as well as waste of time. White could thus be forgiven for simply ignoring them, which is what Roger Warnes Transport’ operations director Ian Barclay has been doing.

Last year, Barclay revealed to motortransport.co.uk that Roger Warnes Transport had been receiving as many as 6 parking tickets per week for 3 years at areas monitored by ParkingEye. On each occasion, it was claimed that the haulier had not paid for the parking when it had actually done so. Mr Barclay reportedly grew tired of having to take the time to send receipts as evidence, and simply opted to ignore the false fines instead.

Meanwhile, following the latest set of false fines, White has once again trolled ParkingEye via an open letter shared on his company’s Facebook page.

This time, the letter was also accompanied by a hand-drawn map to illustrate that Whites Transport Services’ yard is seperate from the facility operated by ParkingEye at Membury Services.

In the letter itself, White laid into ParkingEye, accusing the company of bullying. He also criticised the standard of its parking facilities. In addition, the haulage boss repeated his demands for a personal reply from a ParkingEye representative, which he has still not received to date.
