Two years after the attack in Berlin, in which Łukasz Urban, cousin of Ariel Żurawski, died, the entrepreneur decided to suspend his efforts to receive compensation from Germany. – It’s like David’s fight with Goliath – he told the German news agency DPA.

On December 19, 2016, an assassin Anis Amri shot a truck driver, Łukasz Urbana, and used his vehicle to drive into the crowd at the Christmas market in Berlin. 11 people died and 70 suffered serious injuries. The owner of Łukasz Urban’s truck and cousin, Ariel Żurawski, appealed to the German authorities for financial compensation for a truck, which was almost new on the day of the attack. Material damages were estimated at 90,000 euro. Żurawski does not understand why Germany has not yet compensated the losses his company has suffered.

I do not want to enrich myself,” he emphasized adding that for a country as rich as Germany compensation should be a matter of honour.

Żurawski received compensation for moral damages in the amount of 10 thousand euro. He has now suspended the compensation claim against Germany, reports dpa. According to Żurawski himself, there is no chance of any recompense until the investigation is closed in Germany.

This is like David’s fight with Goliath,” the entrepreneur regrets.

On the other side, Żurawski positively assessed the help he received from the Polish authorities. They covered the costs of bringing the body of Łukasz Urban and his funeral in Poland. President Andrzej Duda also participated in the funeral ceremony, while Germany did not send any official representative.
