Same Day Production & Delivery is not the song of the future, but another step towards the “Industry and Logistics 4.0”. Production and delivery on the same day uses the advantages of digitisation and opens up brand new horizons form the industry and consumers. Here’s the proof.
Manufacture and delivery of spare parts in one day will become the standard when the communication between logistics and production becomes fully automated, we read in the German logistics website mm-logistik.vogel.de. DHL with IT businesses belonging to Siemens (Axit and Evosoft) have proven that this scenario will soon become commonplace.
Live experiment
The first Same Day Production & Delivery has been carried out during a conference organised for clients in Frankenthal. The live experiment was watched online by 100 participants – manufacturing, trade and logistics industry entrepreneurs. The “path” of a spare part was monitored in real time from the moment of its ordering, production, right through to its delivery on the same day.
According to mm-logistik.vogel.de, the cooperation of people and machines using such modern solutions as Internet of Things (IoT) and so called cloud was crucial in the digitised and automated process. AX4 platform was used as a controlling instrument. Communication between machines (M2M) made the companies know about the necessary production capacity and that the devices will be able to complete the order on time. After the completion of the production, the AX4 platform automatically placed the order for transport, which was delivered from Nuremberg to Frankenthal by a courier within 4 hours.
