ROADPOL inspection in Germany: 2/3 of trucks with defects or violations

Recent inspections on commercial vehicles conducted by Bremerhaven police, which were part of the latest ROADPOL Truck and Bus operation, found 2 out of 3 trucks checked had defects or violations.

The inspections were carried out on Wednesday, July 21st at checkpoints in the Grauwallring industrial estate in Bremerhaven-Speckenbüttel and the Weddewarden customs area near the port.

A total of 36 vehicles were checked. Of that number, 24 had issues.

In 7 cases, the violations or defects were deemed severe enough to prevent the trucks from continuing their journey.

The issues spotted by the inspectors during the checks were as follows:

  • 10 violations of compliance with driving and rest times
  • 8 violations related to insufficient load securing
  • 6 trucks with defects, including defective brakes, tyres, wheel covers and other components.
  • 1 truck overloaded by 5.7%
  • 1 trailer with impermissible excess length
  • An additional 13 warnings and 11 reports of administrative offenses
