A Romanian lorry driver is being investigated regarding his involvement in illegal trafficking after 50 migrants from Africa and Asia were found in his trailer.

The migrants were discovered yesterday morning at 5am at the Nădlac Border Crossing Point that leads into Hungary.

A Romanian driver hauling a refrigerated semi-trailer had attempted to cross the border into Hungary. The driver was supposed to be transporting horsemeat and bones for a company in Italy, according to the documents accompanying the goods.

However, following a thorough check, 50 migrants were found hiding in amongst the cargo. The migrants were then taken to the border guard’s headquarters as part of the investigation regarding the incident.

The border police officers will also carry out an investigation in order to establish who was responsible for the trafficking.

Just a day earlier, another 2 migrants were found in another truck at the same border crossing.
