The OSNMA integration is designed to enhance the security of satellite signal reception by verifying the authenticity of signals from Europe’s Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). This aims to reduce the risk of spoofing and ensure more accurate vehicle positioning. The tachograph requires a stable connection to at least three satellites to maintain precision.

According to Stoneridge, the updated SE5000 Smart 2 complies with the latest requirements of the EU’s Mobility Package I, which was introduced in July 2020. Under the legislation, second-generation smart tachographs have been mandatory in new vehicles since 21 August 2023. From 19 August 2025, vehicles used in international transport will also need to be retrofitted with these upgraded devices.

In addition to OSNMA integration, the updated tachograph includes new software aimed at improving performance, reliability, and usability for fleets, drivers and workshops.

Stoneridge confirmed that the SE5000 Smart 2 with OSNMA is now available to order. Existing SE5000 Smart 2 units can also be upgraded through a software update.
