In the “tractor” category, the award went to Volvo Trucks for its FH Aero 460 model. The Iveco Eurocargo CNG was recognised as the most ecological vehicle in the “distribution vehicles” category. Meanwhile, Renault Trucks won the “van” category with its E-Tech Master model, and the top prize in the newly introduced “e-Truck” category went to Volvo for its FH Aero Electric.
The Sustainable Truck of the Year 2025 awards ceremony—the only event in Europe dedicated to sustainability in commercial transport—took place on 16 January.
Tractor: Volvo FH Aero 460
The Volvo FH Aero 460, winner in the “tractor” category, stood out for its efficiency and performance. Introduced in early 2024, the Aero version leverages the opportunities presented by the 2019 European regulations on truck weight and dimensions to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics.
The extended design has significantly improved the truck’s cabin aerodynamics, resulting in 5% lower fuel consumption and better driving stability in windy conditions. This is achieved through increased energy recovery, which is transferred back to the battery during braking or downhill driving. These enhancements were confirmed by the vehicle’s record-breaking performance in the 500-kilometre Vado e Torno Supertest, achieving 4.29 km per litre.
Distribution Vehicle: Iveco Eurocargo CNG
The Iveco Eurocargo was recognised for its versatility and wide range of applications. The CNG Eurocargo, powered by the new 6.7-litre Tector 7 engine, offers improved efficiency and environmental benefits. The vehicle is available with three power levels: 220 HP, 250 HP, and 280 HP.
Van: Renault Trucks Master E-Tech
The Renault Trucks Master E-Tech was named the best sustainable vehicle for light urban transport.
“Renault Trucks Master E-Tech has embraced the electrification trend, showcasing the strength of a model known for its robustness, load capacity, and efficiency—even in its fully electric version. With a modern design and an elegant front that catches the eye, the new Master E-Tech enhances ergonomics, comfort, functionality, and interior practicality,” stated the competition jury.
In terms of performance, the Master leads its class with a battery capacity of up to 87 kWh and a promised range of up to 460 km.
e-Truck: Volvo FH Aero Electric
In the “e-Truck” category, awarded for the first time this year, Volvo Trucks claimed another victory. The winning model, the FH Aero Electric, is equipped with four to six battery packs providing a total capacity of up to 540 kWh, delivering 490 kW (666 hp) of power.
