Girteka’s expanded intermodal services aim to provide a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional road transportation. The intermodal solutions, launched in December 2023, operate seven days a week, offering increased flexibility and capacity.

The initiative is expected to result in a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions per ton-mile, potentially up to four times less, compared to traditional road transportation. This aligns with recent EU plans to focus on intermodal solutions as part of the Greener Freight Package, contributing to overall sustainability goals.

Girteka emphasises its commitment to customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The use of rail connections ensures a smoother and more reliable transportation process with no stops or delays, contributing to the reliability factor and meeting the needs of customers.

The collaboration with Samskip is highlighted as a collective commitment to present and future challenges in the logistics industry.

The railway connection not only ensures on-time deliveries but also improves working conditions for truck drivers by providing shorter driving routes, enhancing fuel efficiency, and reflecting a human-centric approach to responsible logistics, Girteka explains in a press release.
