Toll in Germany Toll Collect introduced changes in the procedure of toll buyout

Toll Collect replaces the old internet system with a new that will enable the toll buyout also via mobile devices.

Since Monday the German toll can be paid by using the manual buyout system. As Toll Collect informs, the payment can be made using a desktop computer, a tablet or a smartphone. When the new system was started, the current system stopped working and the access data to are no longer up to date. Persons registered in the Toll Collect can use in the new system the access data to the website for the Toll-Collect customers.

According to the company managing the system, it will focus on the online payments, the terminal of collecting tolls will be just an addition.

Online buyout also for unregistered customers

According to the operator, the customers who are not registered in the system will be able to make payments by using a device with internet access. At the beginning of the next year a special application will be available for smartphones and tablets, which will enable to execute such a transaction.

New terminals

From December 2017 to July 2018 1100 new modern toll terminals will be installed in Germany and in the border area of ​​neighbouring countries. They will appear near the entrances to highways, MOPs, car parks and petrol stations. As Toll Collect informs, in the second quarter of 2018 the old terminals will be switched off and buyout in the manual system in these devices will be no longer possible.

New interface and easier handling

New terminals and new toll system will have the same user interface, which will make the service easier. The menu has been simplified and the interface will be the same whether we use a smartphone, a tablet, a computer or a terminal.

The system is available in Polish, German, French and English.

More toll roads in Germany

The fourth amendment to the German Federal Trunk Road Toll Act (BFStrMG) has been in force since 31 March 2017. According to the act, the toll for heavy goods vehicles will be collected on highways and all federal roads since 1 July 2018.

The German government has established that the trucks over 7.5 tonnes will be subject to payments for the distance of about 40 000 km of federal roads. So far only the highways were subject to payments and about 2300 km of the four lane roads (15 000 km in total).

Federal Ministry of Transport hopes that after the introduction of tolls on more roads, the budget will gain additional 2 billion euros per year for the modernisation of roads.
