Drivers have noticed a young dog constantly sitting by the side of the road long ago. However, nobody expected that there is an extraordinary story behind it – tragic and beautiful at the same time.

The story of a dog sitting every day by the road near the village of Griwenka (Pskov region in Russia) and staring intently at the drivers’ faces resembles the story of a Hachikō dog who waited for his master for one decade at a station in Tokyo. Both stories combine tragedy and attachment – death of the owner and loyalty of his animal.

The dog has been waiting for his master for over a month. Griwenka lies in a sparsely populated area and the animal could starve. Fortunately, the drivers pay attention to the dog. The story also made it to the media and the dog became famous.

Now many truck drivers intentionally take this route, even if it takes longer to get to their destination, just to see and share their delicious, lorry food with the lonely animal. The dog, they say, has become more trusting and cheerful. Although it used to be immobile and staring at vehicles, it now recognizes some drivers who are clearly enjoying the sight.

As the villagers say, once the dog’s name was Maja. Today truck drivers call her Palm. They are happy because the dog has changed significantly and most importantly – made many new acquaintances with drivers.

The truckers themselves also do not cease to amaze the inhabitants of Griwenko. Palm receives from them more and more delicious morsels. It comes as a surprise especially because the local drivers are not very creative when it comes to cooking. Recently, a driver left Palma … a large bag of warm pancakes.
