A lorry was found to be 3.5 tonnes overweight at a Norwegian roadside check earlier this week. To the police officers greatest surprise, the driver chose to deal with the issue by unloading the surplus himself – manually.

At Malvik, east of Trondheim, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration carried out an inspection on Wednesday, 26th May. Of the 20 inspected lorries, 11 were banned from use, reports Norwegian Road Transport website tungt.no.

Among those 11 were two overloaded lorries; these received fines NOK 13,250 (approx 1300 euros) and NOK 4,250 (around 417 euros).

One of the lorry drivers, however, really surprised the police officers. When the overweight was detected and the driver was told to unload the surplus, the Polish driver chose to solve the problem with his own hands. Literally.

He moved 3.5 tonnes of reinforcement nets by hand to another lorry.

During the inspections the following bans were also issued:

  • A driving ban on three lorries loaded with salmon due to drainage from the load. The vehicles were prohibited from their journey until the load compartment was sufficiently cooled and the draining stopped.
  • Three driving bans due to insecure loading.
  • A driving ban on a lorry that didn’t have a license.
  • A driving ban for missing installation cd in the tachograph.
