According to the ministry, all trucks operated by licensed carriers weighing over 3.5 tons will now be required to register in the eCherha system before crossing the Ukrainian border. Previously, this requirement applied only to trucks over 7.5 tons.

“Throughout March, we will gradually adapt the eCherha system to accommodate smaller trucks. Currently, road freight transport operates through 23 checkpoints, and appropriate online registration queues will be created for these locations. This will allow carriers and drivers to plan their work more efficiently. Expanding eCherha is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve border traffic, eliminate physical queues, and reduce the risk of corruption,” the Ministry of Communities and Territorial Development stated in a press release.

According to the ministry, eCherha has become an integral part of the border-crossing process, making a return to physical queues and week-long waits at the border no longer an option.

“Since the launch of the project, more than 1.5 million trucks have crossed the border using online registration. This is why we continue to develop the system,” emphasized Oleksiy Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister of Communities and Territorial Development.

Three stages

The expansion of the system for all heavy goods vehicles will take place in three stages: March 11, 18, and 25. On these dates, at 12:00 noon, registration in the eCherha system will open for trucks over 3.5 tons. Separate queues will be created accordingly.

Stage 1 – March 11

On March 11 at 12:00 noon, registration in the Electronic Border Queue system began for trucks over 3.5 tons at the following checkpoints:

  • Poland: Smilnytsia – Krościenko
  • Slovakia: Uzhhorod – Vyšné Nemecké, Malý Berezny – Ubľa
  • Hungary: Luzhanka – Beregsurány
  • Romania: Diacove – Halmeu
  • Moldova: Vynohradivka – Vulcănești

Stage 2 – March 18

Next week, on March 18 at 12:00 noon, registration will open at these checkpoints:

  • Poland: Hruszów – Budomierz
  • Romania: Krasnoyarsk – Vicovu de Sus, Dyakivtsi – Racovăț
  • Moldova: Mamalyga – Criva, Mohyliv-Podilskyi – Otaci, Serpnewe – Basarabeasca, Novi Troyany – Ceadîr-Lunga, Tabaki – Myrne

Stage 3 – March 25

The final stage will begin on March 25 at 12:00 noon, allowing registration at these checkpoints:

  • Poland: Uhryniv – Dołhobyczów, Nizankovychi – Malhowice
  • Hungary: Chop – Záhony
  • Romania: Porubne – Siret, Orlivka – Isaccea
  • Moldova: Rososhany – Brychany, Staryi Kosiv – Tudor, Prykordonna – Ceadîr-Lunga, Reni – Giurgiulești

The ministry emphasizes the importance of selecting the correct queue when booking a place. “It is crucial to register in the queue that corresponds to the vehicle’s tonnage. Otherwise, crossing the border may not be possible, and the reservation will be lost, requiring a new registration,” the ministry warns.

Additionally, at the largest checkpoints, separate queues will be created for empty and loaded vehicles.
