All it takes is one bad measurement, one bad decision for the truck to get stuck under the viaduct or bridge for a few hours. Can such situations be avoided? A young Taiwanese visionary invented a clever solution to this problem.
Warning Sign is a device that identifies the car’s height. The young designer from Taiwan – Ming-sheng Shih is the creator of this innovative solution. The way the system works is very simple. When the vehicle that exceeds the height limitations to safely pass under an overpass, a bridge or a traffic light the sign will immediately notify the driver. In this way, the innovative warning sign aims to prevent dangerous accidental crossings.

Green – go, red – stop
The system has many specialized sensors that are to measure the height of approaching vehicles with great accuracy. Double-sided cameras have been combined with a detector and CCTV system (Closed-Circuit TeleVision – a system of image transmission from cameras in a limited area). The sensors measure within a radius of 80m. They are able to retrieve precise data even if the vehicle is traveling more than 100 km/h. As the creator points out – in the conditions of heavy rain, snow and other weather anomalies the system will also work perfectly.
The device will show a green light if the oncoming car does not exceed the maximum height that will ensure safe passage.

If there is even a minimal risk that the vehicle exceeds the recommended height limit – the system will then display a yellow signal.

However, the red light will start to display if the oncoming truck is too high to drive safely under the overpass. The system will warn the driver not to go any further.

Designed by Ming-sheng Shiha, the system can also inform drivers via SMS about roadblocks.
