According to the company, the new route is intended to respond to increased demand for freight movement between mainland Europe and Ireland. It will run in addition to the company’s existing roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) sailings between Zeebrugge and Ireland, bringing the total number of weekly return sailings between CLdN’s continental hubs and Irish ports to 14.
CLdN stated that the service will allow it to optimise the deployment of its RoRo fleet while offering an alternative mode of transport for cargo. The introduction of LoLo calls at the Port of Cork marks the first time the company will offer such a service at that location.
The new route builds on a combined LoLo and RoRo service introduced from CLdN’s Rotterdam terminals last year. The company has also announced plans to expand its LoLo capacity further, with new container vessels scheduled for delivery from 2027.
CLdN has been operating freight services to Ireland since 1999 and reported shipping over 500,000 cargo units annually to and from the Republic of Ireland. The most recent expansion before this announcement was made in August 2024, when additional services were launched between Rotterdam and Dublin.
