The decision to extend controls is valid until December 15, 2025 and applies to borders with both the Czech Republic and Slovakia (where the measure would have expired on October 15 of this year), as well as with Hungary and Slovenia, where controls were supposed to be conducted until November 11 of this year.
This is the seventh extension of such measures since autumn 2022. Austria justifies maintaining controls due to threats related to illegal migration, the effects of the war in Ukraine, and an increased risk of terrorist acts. Further extensions in the coming months are not ruled out.
Carriers planning to transport through Austria should follow current announcements and regulations to avoid delays and formal problems at the border.
