Until a dozen or so years ago, nobody would have thought that the role of mirrors in the car could be taken over by cameras. Producers with increasing courage are beginning to implement this vision. The first was Mercedes-Benz, which introduced this technology the new Actros model. You did not have to wait long for further proposals. Stoneridge has unveiled the MirrorEye system that will allow you to install cameras instead of mirrors in any truck.

MirrorEye is an innovative camera system that replaces the mirrors of a truck. It consists of two integrated external cameras with digital monitors mounted inside the cabin. Compared to traditional mirrors, it has to provide the driver with better visibility on the road, eliminate blind spots and improve safety while driving.

Our monitoring system is a technology that can change the transport industry. Thanks to it, driving will be safer for all drivers,” said Jon DeGaynor, president and CEO of Stoneridge.

The Stoneridge set will fit both new and older models. Each eager carrier will be able to buy and replace traditional camera mirrors in its fleet. At present, it is not yet known what the cost will be. In the regular sale will appear probably in 2019. The company is currently working on the creation of a network of certified service points.

It will improve driving comfort

The cameras offered by Stoneridge will guarantee a sharp, clear digital image displayed on color displays with very high resolution. Thanks to them, the driver will have an extended field of vision and excellent visibility also at night thanks to the night vision function.

Mounted cameras are designed to withstand both shock and high temperatures. They can work in extreme conditions, from -40 to +85 degrees Celsius.

MirrorEye has one more advantage – they will be very simple in everyday maintenance, even in adverse weather conditions. Cameras will be equipped with a function that will facilitate cleaning and self-defrosting in the winter. In this way, Stoneridge wants to ensure a significant improvement in driving comfort under adverse conditions.
