DB Schenker has confirmed that electric trucks have proven reliable in severe cold weather conditions, following a one-year operational test in Finland. Two FUSO eCanter electric trucks were successfully operated in customer logistics operations, including temperatures dropping as low as -30°C, typical of Finland’s Lapland region near the Arctic Circle.
According to Tristan Keusgen, Head of European Fleet Management at DB Schenker, the trial underscores the viability of electric trucks in challenging environments.
“At DB Schenker, we are committed to pioneering solutions that meet the demands of modern logistics,” Keusgen stated. “With this successful deployment of electric trucks in a region like Lapland, which has difficult weather conditions, we are proving once again that DB Schenker is leading the way to a sustainable future of logistics.”
Primarily used for regional and local transport, the trucks demonstrated their versatility, supporting various logistics scenarios. DB Schenker reported that the robust design and advanced technology of the electric vehicles maintained stable operations and ensured reliable customer service.
The latest generation FUSO eCanter trucks used in Finland are recharged overnight, readying them for the next day’s operations. DB Schenker has been utilizing these electric trucks since 2018, mostly for last-mile deliveries. Currently, around 50 FUSO eCanter trucks are in operation across multiple European countries, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainable logistics solutions.
