Under the agreement with TT-Line, DFDS will gain access to three routes connecting Klaipeda with Karlshamn, Trelleborg and Travemünde.
From 1 October, DFDS will expand its offering on the Klaipeda–Karlshamn route, where both companies currently operate sailings, and add new services on TT-Line’s Klaipeda–Trelleborg and Klaipeda–Travemünde routes.
In total, the partnership will provide capacity for:
- Up to 18 weekly sailings on Klaipeda–Karlshamn.
- Up to 5 weekly sailings on Klaipeda–Trelleborg (passenger and freight).
- Up to 6 weekly sailings on Klaipeda–Travemünde (freight only).
Passenger bookings on the Karlshamn route will be available from 1 October, with the Trelleborg route opening to passengers from 1 November. Freight services will be available from 1 October on all routes.
“This new agreement enables us to offer more frequent and flexible sailings, while also opening access to new destinations, enhancing choice and convenience for our customers,” said Filip Hermann, Vice President for Channel & Baltics at DFDS.
Expansion in the Strait of Gibraltar
DFDS also confirmed plans to increase capacity on the Strait of Gibraltar through the acquisition of two ferries and associated assets from Naviera Armas, which is withdrawing from the market.
The deal, valued at DKK 240 million and subject to regulatory approvals, covers the RoPax ferry Volcan de Tamasite (built in 2004), the high-speed catamaran ferry Villa de Agaete (built in 1999), route permits, and around 200 employees. Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2026.
The acquisition will add one vessel each to DFDS’ two existing services between Algeciras–Tanger Med and Algeciras–Ceuta. It will also increase DFDS’ share of freight ferry (RoRo) capacity on the Algeciras–Tanger Med corridor.
According to the company, the additional capacity is forecast to generate approximately DKK 500 million in revenue during 2026, with no impact on the 2025 financial results.
“The growth of the Strait of Gibraltar ferry market has exceeded our expectations since we entered the market in 2024. The two ferries we are purchasing are already operating on overlapping routes and we expect to deliver a smooth transition and an immediate enhancement of services to both passengers and freight customers,” commented Mathieu Girardin, Head of Ferry Division at DFDS.
