The agreement covers the RoPax ferry Volcan de Tamasite (built in 2004) and the high-speed catamaran ferry Villa de Agaete (built in 1999), along with existing route permits and around 200 employees. The deal, valued at DKK 240 million, is subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.
The acquisition will add one vessel each to DFDS’ two existing routes between Algeciras–Tanger Med and Algeciras–Ceuta. In addition, the company will increase its share of freight ferry (RoRo) capacity on the Algeciras–Tanger Med corridor.
According to the company, the additional capacity is forecast to generate approximately DKK 500 million in revenue during 2026, with the transaction expected to be accretive to earnings from that year onwards. No impact is foreseen on the group’s 2025 financial results.
DFDS entered the Strait of Gibraltar market in 2024. Commenting on the development, Mathieu Girardin, Head of Ferry Division at DFDS, said:
“The growth of the Strait of Gibraltar ferry market has exceeded our expectations since we entered the market in 2024. The two ferries we are purchasing are already operating on overlapping routes and we expect to deliver a smooth transition and an immediate enhancement of services to both passengers and freight customers.”
