A lorry driver has paid the price for not applying for a new tachograph card. The trucker just happened to be inspected by road police in the Netherlands on the day his card expired, resulting in a fine of €1100.
The driver was subject to inspection on the A16 near Moerdijk on Friday.
According to the inspectors, the HGV driver’s tachograph had been warning for 2 months that the card was due to expire.
Unfortunately for the driver, he was inspected on the very day the card expired, which entailed a fine of €1100. The driver was also ordered to apply for a new card as soon as possible.
Controle A16 Moerdijk.

The road transport inspectorate in the Netherlands posted news of the incident on its Twitter feed on Friday. One user felt the penalty was too harsh, but most tweets suggested that the trucker had sufficient time and warning to order a new card.
