Truck mileage on German toll roads increased in August 2020 compared to July and August last year. Is it enough to justify talking about the end of the crisis?

Last month the number of kilometres covered by trucks with at least 4axles on German toll roads slightly increased compared to July, the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) informs. We are talking about an increase of 1.2%. However, as BAG points out, last month’s truck mileage also increased, albeit slightly, compared to the same period in 2019 – by 0.2%.

Despite another month of growth (in July the mileage increased by 1.9% compared to June this year), truck traffic has not yet returned to its pre-pandemic level.

According to the BAG and the German statistical office Destatis, toll statistics were 3.5% lower in August than in February this year.

At the same time, BAG highlights the close link between truck traffic and economic development in Germany due to the fact that industry requires transport services.
