The tunnel will be closed for eight nights across two weeks: from 17 June to 21 June and from 24 June to 28 June. Each closure period will run from 20:00 to 05:00 the following morning.

During these times, both northbound and southbound traffic will be impacted, including a specific halt for trucks and heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes starting from 19:30 on the affected dates.

Motorists will need to use alternative routes during the closure periods. Recommended detours include:

  • From Bern and the Swiss Plateau: options include the Oberalp and Lukmanier passes, the Grimsel, Furka, and Novena passes, or the Susten Pass.
  • From Zurich: alternatives include the Gotthard Pass, the Brünig, Susten, and Oberalp passes, or the Brünig, Grimsel, and Furka passes.
  • From the Lake Geneva region: detours via the Simplon Pass, the Furka and Novena passes, or through the Bernese Oberland are suggested.

In addition to these scheduled closures, the Gotthard Tunnel undergoes regular weekly maintenance, typically closing once a week from 23:00 to 01:00, usually on the night from Wednesday to Thursday.
