Today’s main story

Germany’s Labour Minister, Hubertus Heil, has said that legislation will be implemented that requires parcels weighing more than 20kg to be handled by at least 2 persons.

Speaking to the German press, Heil said:

“Parcels that weigh more than 20 kilograms will have to be delivered by two people in the future. This is about the health of people who make our everyday lives easier with their work and keep the country running.”

In addition, Heil wishes to see a labeling requirement for packages weighing more than 10kg.

The draft amendments to the postal act are expected to be ready before the end of this year.

In an interview with Bild am Sonntag, the Minister said he was a fan of home delivery services and uses them often himself. However, the SPD politician added that “we also have to deal with the question of what happens to the employees who lug a heavy package up to the 5th floor.”
