Hungary’s toll road network will be expanded from 8 June 2025, with new sections added to both the time-based e-vignette system for passenger cars and the distance-based electronic toll system for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes – the National Toll Payment Services PLC (NÚSZ) has announced.

In the e-vignette system, the currently toll-free section of the M44 motorway between the Kecskemét North and Lakitelek/Tiszakécske interchanges will become subject to tolls. This means the entire M44 will require a valid vignette from its western terminus to the Békéscsaba–Gyula / Debrecen–Szeged junction.

The M85 motorway will also become fully chargeable, with the tollable section extended to run from the Győr West interchange all the way to the Austrian border.

The electronic toll system, which applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes – including trucks, buses, and motorhomes – will likewise be extended to cover the full length of both the M44 and M85 motorways. New chargeable segments will also be introduced on Main Roads 53 and 103. In addition, some modifications will be made to existing tolled sections elsewhere in the network.

The changes are set out in the amended versions of Government Decree 45/2020 (for the e-vignette system) and Decree 25/2013 (for the distance-based electronic toll system), both of which will enter into force on 8 June 2025.
