Large orders and new partnerships after the IAA in Hannover

The IAA Transportation 2024, which took place in Hanover from 17-22 September - Europe's most important event for the commercial vehicle, logistics, and transport industry - brought together almost 1,700 exhibitors from 41 countries. This led to numerous orders placed with truck manufacturers and fostered new partnerships.

The share of international exhibitors and visitors increased by a record 72 per cent in Hanover this year. The number of visitors also rose—around 145,000, or 10 per cent more than in 2022.

As more than half of all visitors were executives, this translated into purchasing decisions.

Overall, more than 50 per cent of trade visitors stated that they intended to invest within the next 6-12 months. This is confirmed by contracts announced by some companies.

TIP orders from Volvo

TIP Trailer Services Germany GmbH, which specialises in the rental of motor vehicles and trailers, ordered 150 Volvo FH Aero trucks at the Hanover Fair. The Swedish manufacturer impressed the company, particularly with the excellent fuel efficiency and safety features of the vehicles.

TIP ordered FH 500 Aero 4×2 tractor units equipped with the well-known 13-litre Volvo Trucks Turbo Compound engine. The trucks will be delivered in the first half of 2025.

“The new Volvo FH Aero will complement our fleet perfectly. In addition to increased safety, we were particularly impressed by the improved fuel economy. With these ultra-modern trucks, we can offer our customers reliable and cost-effective vehicles,” explains Oliver Bange, Managing Director of TIP Trailer Services Germany GmbH.

TIP Trailer Services already has 1,600 Volvo trucks in its rental fleet, including electric models.

Partnership between Chinese e-truck manufacturer and Duvenbeck

The trade fair was also a complete success for Bocholt-based logistics service provider Duvenbeck. On 19 September, Duvenbeck entered into a strategic partnership with the Farizon New Energy Commercial Vehicle Group.

Farizon, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers in electromobility and is part of one of the largest automotive groups, which includes Volvo Cars, Polestar, and Smart brands.

The Chinese automotive group has appointed Duvenbeck as its logistics partner in Europe to support its expansion and collaborate to accelerate the green transformation in European freight transport.

Farizon will supply Duvenbeck with the vehicles, and the delivery of the first 50 vehicles is scheduled for next year.

Juna expands its fleet

At the show, Berlin-based joint venture Juna announced a record order for 30 Scania electric trucks. The trucks will be delivered in the first half of 2025, increasing Juna’s fleet to around 50 electric trucks.

Sennder and Scania established Juna as a joint venture in November 2023. The young company offers electric trucks in a pay-per-use model, primarily aimed at small and medium-sized transport companies looking to electrify their fleets.

“Our pay-per-use model has proven to meet the needs of shippers and demonstrates that electric trucks can meet the performance and reliability standards expected by demanding freight customers. We are now ready to introduce our innovative solution to more markets in Europe,” said Matteo Oberto, CEO of Juna.

According to the company, electric trucks are currently leased in four major European markets, including Germany. The newly ordered models are Scania vehicles designed for regional transport. They can carry up to 46 tonnes and have a range of up to 500 kilometres on a single charge.
