Following a decline in February, March recorded a year-on-year increase in toll-liable truck traffic. In the third month of 2025, trucks over 3.5 tonnes travelled 6.4% more kilometres on German roads compared to the same period last year. The rise applied to German trucks (up 7.6%), Polish trucks (up 4.7%) and Lithuanian trucks (up 6%).

It is worth noting, however, that data from the first half of 2024 did not include vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) above 3.5 tonnes but below 7.5 tonnes, as this category was only made subject to tolls from 1 July 2024.

Movement of vehicles over 7.5 tonnes

When considering only vehicles with a GVW exceeding 7.5 tonnes, traffic in March 2025 was 3.1% higher than in March 2024.

The highest mileage in March (year-on-year) was recorded by:

  • German trucks – up 3%, covering approximately 1.93 billion km
  • Polish trucks – up 2.4%, covering 0.655 billion km
  • Lithuanian trucks – up 5.2%, covering 0.129 billion km

Slight decline in the first quarter

Over the entire first quarter of 2025, traffic involving trucks over 7.5 tonnes on German roads was slightly lower than in the same period last year – down by 0.5%. German trucks, which covered 5.476 billion km, recorded a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%. Polish trucks drove approximately 1.87 billion km, down 1.3%, while Lithuanian trucks covered 365 million km – an increase of 0.4% year-on-year.
