According to Simon Loos, the majority of the order comprises tractors and rigids powered by Scania’s 13-litre Super engine, with output options of 420, 460, or 500 hp. A smaller number of rigids will utilise the 9-litre 280 hp engine. All vehicles are covered by a full-service contract, ensuring maintenance and support are streamlined.
Simon Loos is recognised for its innovation in transport solutions, boasting a sizeable fleet of LNG-powered tractors and fully electric trucks. These latest additions, equipped with the Super driveline, align with the company’s strategy for applications not yet suitable for electrification. Notably, Scania’s Super engine was named Green Truck of the Year in 2024, marking its ninth win in the prestigious international competition.
Jan de Vries, Director Sales at Scania Nederland, emphasised the strength of the collaboration:
“We see this order as a confirmation of the long-standing partnership we have with Simon Loos. Over the years, this has continued to develop into the relationship we have today. This collaboration goes beyond just the delivery of the vehicle and also extends to our extensive range of services and the support of our national service organisation.”
The partnership between Simon Loos and Scania dates back to the early 1990s, with Scania vehicles now comprising a significant portion of the Simon Loos fleet. Scania Alkmaar has managed the delivery and service agreements, while Simon Loos can rely on the entire Scania Netherlands dealer network for maintenance.
Reflecting on the industry’s evolving landscape, a Simon Loos spokesperson highlighted the company’s strategy for the coming years:
“We are in the middle of the energy transition in which electric trucks will be further developed and improved in the coming years. At the same time, we also have to deal with a limited charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. In order to remain flexible in the coming years, we have purchased a considerable number of diesel trucks this year. This will allow us to make a smooth transition to electric trucks until 2030.”
Order for Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 doubles Simon Loos’ electric fleet
In addition to its Scania order, Simon Loos has recently expanded its electric fleet with an order for 75 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks. Announced in October, this move doubles the company’s current electric fleet, positioning Simon Loos as the operator of the largest electric fleet in the Netherlands with a total of 135 electric trucks.
The eActros 600, a long-haul electric truck with a range of up to 500 kilometres, represents a significant step forward in the company’s sustainability efforts.
“The eActros 600 is a game-changer,” noted Simon Loos fleet manager Wim Roks.
The company is also preparing for future megawatt charging capabilities, which could drastically reduce charging times to under 30 minutes.
