Mercedes-Benz’s new Actros wins the 2020 International Truck of the Year award. In the finals, it competed with Volvo FH I-Save and IVECO S-Way.

The International Truck of the Year jury, formed by a group of journalists from European trucking magazines, selected the winner of this year’s competition. Based on the International Truck of the Year (IToY) rules, they have awarded the prize to the vehicle that will make the greatest contribution to improving transport efficiency. When selecting the best truck, the jury considers several important criteria, including – technological innovation, – comfort, – safety, – driveability, – fuel economy, – environmental footprint and – Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

The choice fell on the Mercedes truck, and here is how the jury justified it:

“Mercedes-Benz has built upon the technical strengths of its current range to deliver a new truck that introduces substantial improvements in crucial areas, such as partially automated driving, expanded cruise and transmission control systems, digital human-machine interface and several state-of-the-art safety systems,” reads the official statement.

The jury praised the MirrorCam system, which replaces the traditional exterior rear-view mirrors. They also appreciated the new Active Drive Assist system which, in certain operational conditions, can take over the longitudinal and lateral guidance of the truck, thereby allowing partially automated driving in all speed ranges.
