TotalEnergies and SSE to build EV charging network in UK and Ireland

Over the next five years, Source will install up to 3,000 high power charge points (150 kW and above) in 300 “EV hubs”. These hubs will be located in urban areas and will be powered by renewable energy from SSE and TotalEnergies. Several hubs are already under construction, with additional sites currently in development.

In the UK, Source aims to provide the ultra-fast charging infrastructure required to meet the increasing demand from EV drivers and fleet operators. This demand has been bolstered by the UK Government’s mandate for zero vehicle emissions for all new cars and vans.

In Ireland, Source’s initiatives will support the government’s target of placing nearly 1 million electric vehicles on the roads by 2030. This effort is expected to enhance consumer confidence in EV charging availability and reliability.

“TotalEnergies is proud to contribute to the development of electric mobility to decarbonise transportation in the UK and Ireland. This is a great opportunity to extend our network in Europe and establish a key position as a high-power charging provider. We aim to offer our customers a nationwide, ultra-fast and reliable charging service, aligning with our integrated power strategy in the UK,” said Mathieu Soulas, Senior Vice President of New Mobilities at TotalEnergies.

Neil Kirkby, Managing Director of Enterprise at SSE, added,

“SSE is already a leader in decarbonising the UK and Ireland’s power system, including building the world’s largest offshore wind farm. This agreement will help accelerate the progress towards a decarbonised transport system, ensuring vehicles can operate more sustainably.”

The agreement between TotalEnergies and SSE is subject to regulatory approvals from the relevant authorities.
