Road Police officers working near the Swiss town of Erstfeld have found a truck driver guilty of 25 violations, including speeding at 115 km/h, breaking drivers’ hours rules and driving a vehicle with several defects.

The violations were detected during a regular commercial vehicle inspection conducted last Wednesday. The lorry driver in question was from the Netherlands.

Police found that the trucker had exceeded the permitted drivers’ hours several times and often failed to take required driving breaks. In addition, he repeatedly disregarded daily rest periods.

Moreover, on at least nine working days, the driver removed his card from the tachograph, in turn driving his vehicle for around 2,000 kilometers without recording his work and rest times.

The technical inspection of the vehicle also revealed several defects. A close inspection of the truck’s speed limiter showed that the speed limit was set at 117 km/h. On one day, the lorry driver even drove his vehicle continuously for four hours at an average speed of at least 115 km/h.

The technical defects had to be remedied before the driver was allowed to continue the journey. The trucker was reported to the local public prosecutor and was fined several thousand Swiss francs.
