Volvo Trucks is adding a new entry-level model to its electric line-up: a 14-tonne version of the Volvo FL Electric, designed for dense urban environments where payload, manoeuvrability and low noise are critical. The new model will enter production in the second half of 2026 and is expected to appeal to operators seeking a lighter, more flexible option than the existing 16–18-tonne variants.
For hauliers, the update is significant because it fills a gap between electric LCVs and heavier electric distribution trucks. In this segment, fleet renewal is accelerating rapidly due to city access rules, retailer requirements and net-zero targets.
A city-focused “workhorse” with right-sized battery options

Volvo says the new version has been engineered specifically for door-to-door delivery in busy city centres, offering up to 200 km of range, depending on load and conditions, and a usable battery capacity of 145 kWh.
Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks, describes it as “a perfect inner-city workhorse with no tailpipe emissions”, adding that operators should only buy the battery capacity they truly need — a practical message for fleets concerned about payload penalties.
The batteries have been redesigned so they don’t interfere with body installations, making the truck suitable for applications such as parcel delivery, refrigeration units, municipal services or light construction logistics. The model can also be configured with several wheelbase options (3,800–6,500 mm) and various axle layouts, and can be ordered with a narrower 2.4-metre vehicle width for tighter manoeuvring.
Charging, performance, and existing platform
The 14-tonne FL Electric delivers 180 kW of motor power and supports DC fast charging from 20–80% in around 1 hour 17 minutes when equipped with eight battery units. Ground clearance stands at 240 mm — useful for urban obstacles such as kerbs and loading bays.
This new battery configuration will also be available across Volvo’s other medium-duty electric models, including the 16- and 18-tonne FL Electric and the FE Electric range up to 26 tonnes, enabling more tailored energy setups across fleet types.

A maturing electric portfolio
Volvo’s FL and FE Electric trucks have been on the market since 2019 and are currently sold in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. The OEM now has eight battery-electric truck models in production and has passed 5,000 global electric truck sales, signalling both rising demand and growing operator confidence in medium-duty electrification.
