Amazon joins the fight against the expansion of coronavirus in the United States. Some of its couriers will be delivering quick tests for coronavirus to the residents. For the time being, this will only be possible in King County, Washington State, where one of the major COVID-19 outbreaks in the US has been reported.

Amazon will carry out delivery and pick up of coronavirus tests through Amazon Care internal health care platform for the giant’s employees,” reports theverge.com.

It adds that the tests are not to be limited to these workers only and anyone in the Seattle area (King County seat) will be qualified for the tests by the Seattle Coronavirus Assessment Network Foundation, including those who do not show flu-like symptoms.

The Foundation, financed by Bill and Melinda Gates, analyses, among other things, the ways coronavirus spreads. It also creates potential scenarios for the development of the pandemic.

Courier with important shipment

According to US media, Amazon assures that “all couriers involved in the distribution of tests have been trained to handle medical supplies. They will distribute smear sets to the homes of the people who asked for it.”

We are grateful to be surrounded by a strong community of public health, global health and academic leaders and are eager to leverage Amazon Care’s infrastructure and logistics capabilities to support this local effort,” said Amazon Care representative Kristen Helton in a statement to CNBC.

Test results will be available to scientists to see how the virus spreads between different demographic groups. Those who turn out to be ill will be directed to health professionals, according to media reports.
