From Wednesday, 4 June 2025, the Lueg Bridge will once again be open to two-lane traffic in both directions – an important step towards improving traffic flow on the A13 motorway. This arrangement will remain in effect until 5 October and applies in both directions. The change is primarily aimed at improving conditions for tourist and freight transport during the summer.
Trucks still required to use the left-hand lane
Despite this improvement, the rule remains that all vehicles over 3.5 tonnes must use the left-hand (inner) lane, in order to reduce the strain on the bridge’s supporting structure.
Truck bans depending on direction of travel
In addition, on selected days during this period, bans on heavy goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes will still apply. These mainly affect weekends and days with increased traffic due to holidays. According to the official calendar of Austrian road operator ASFINAG, truck bans will apply on the following days – even though the bridge will be open to two-lane traffic:
- Saturdays: 7, 14, 18, 21, and 28 June (only in the direction of Italy)
- Saturdays: 5, 12, 19, and 26 July (applies to both directions – Italy and Germany)
- Saturdays: 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 August (applies to both directions)
- Saturdays: 6, 13, 20, and 27 September (only in the direction of Italy)
- Thursday, 2 October (towards Italy) and Friday, 3 October (towards Germany)
These restrictions are intended to reduce freight traffic during the holiday season in favour of tourist transport.
The Lueg Bridge is scheduled to undergo modernisation works until 2030. Traffic disruptions are expected to continue until then.
