March 2025 truck bans in Europe: Key dates & details

Two European countries will observe public holidays in March. Below are the truck traffic restrictions that will apply.

In addition to the regular Saturday and Sunday truck bans, holiday-related restrictions will be in effect in Hungary and Liechtenstein this month:

  • 15 March
    Hungary (Anniversary of the outbreak of the Hungarian Revolution) – from 08:00 to 24:00.
    The restriction applies to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 7.5 tonnes.
  • 19 March
    Liechtenstein (St. Joseph’s Day) – from 00:00 to 24:00.
    The restriction applies to HGVs with a GVW exceeding 3.5 tonnes and vehicle combinations with a GVW exceeding 5 tonnes.

Additional restrictions in France and Austria

France

According to a French decree supplementing the general restrictions on HGVs over 7.5 tonnes GVW, additional traffic bans will apply on:

  • 8 March 2025, from 07:00 to 18:00, on the road network in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Austria

Austria has introduced additional restrictions from 19 December 2024 to 30 March 2025. During this period, trucks will be prohibited from exiting the A10 motorway (Tauernautobahn) at the following junctions:

  • Hallein (Exit 16)
  • Kuchl (Exit 22)
  • Golling-Abtenau (Exit 28)
  • However, exemptions apply to transport with a destination within the following areas:
  • Within a 20 km radius from the Hallein exit (towards Villach on the L107 Wiestal Landesstraße).
  • Within a 15 km radius from the Kuchl exit (on the B159 Salzachtal Straße).
  • Within a 35 km radius from the Golling-Abtenau exit (towards Villach on the B159 Salzachtal Straße).

Upcoming block checks at the German-Austrian border

Additionally, block checks will be conducted at the Kiefersfelden/Kufstein border crossing between Germany and Austria on:

  • 3 March
  • 10 March
