European police officers and road inspectors are carrying out increased speed controls this week as ROADPOL’s flagship Speed Operation continues until Sunday April 24th.

During the operation, member countries are asked to enforce the speed limits as set in their own country by Officer intervention i.e. the physical presence of a Police Officer checking the speed of a vehicle using an approved method and device and then stopping and reporting the driver, and also by the use of fixed automatic devices such as fixed cameras at the roadside.

20 European countries are participating in the activities, including, Germany, Italy and Belgium. During the action, both cars and HGVs will be checked.

The enforcement of excessive speeding is a major task for all European Traffic Police Services, not only during the ROADPOL Operation but at all times during the rest of the year.
