This marks the first time the family-run logistics firm has partnered with Schmitz Cargobull. According to the company, the decision was driven by competitive pricing and the lightweight design of the curtainsiders, which are expected to enhance payload efficiency. The new trailers also feature disc brakes, which the Lockwood Group is trialling alongside its existing fleet equipped with drum brakes.
The semi-trailers are built on Schmitz Cargobull’s galvanised MODULOS chassis, which is covered by a 10-year warranty against rust-through. They also feature ROTOS axles with a warranty spanning up to 1,000,000 km or six years. Each trailer includes XL load securing side curtains, anti-theft protection, and an aluminium roof with a side loading height of up to 3,100 mm. Compliance with the EN 12642-XL specification ensures maximum load security.
To enhance operational efficiency, the trailers are equipped with the TrailerConnect® telematics system, offering real-time monitoring of location, tyre mileage, speed, and axle load. An integrated Electronic Brake Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS) provides continuous oversight of brake performance, helping to minimise downtime and improve safety.
Lockwood Group’s Operations Director, Jason Lockwood, noted that the domestic production of the trailers in Manchester aligned with the company’s sustainability goals. He also highlighted the seamless integration of the new units into the fleet, supported by efficient lead times and robust service from Schmitz Cargobull.
Founded in 1965 in Ambergate, Derbyshire, the Lockwood Group has grown into a multi-depot operation, employing over 200 people and running a fleet of 150 trucks and 350 trailers.
