Shocking aerial footage of the M20 motorway, recorded by Sky News earlier today, shows how several-mile-long queues are already forming in Kent two weeks before the end of the Brexit transition period.
The UK is currently still in the EU single market, and goods can flow between the UK and the EU without any customs checks.
However, fears of congestion come January 1st have led to a ‘pre-Brexit’ rush, during which companies are ordering more goods than normal to avoid potential tariffs, delays and shortages.
This has been one of the factors causing the queues seen in the video, as well as Christmas shopping.
Trucks queue down the M20 for mile upon mile at the entrance of the Eurotunnel in Folkestone, as companies rush to stockpile as the deadline for a Brexit trade deal looms.

The lorry jam captured in the film above is by no means the only one to hit the M2O this year. Last month a Brexit trial saw queues as long as 5 miles form on the motorway.
