The Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure has approved a project for reduction of the maximum speed in urban areas to 50 km/h. Previously, drivers were able to drive at speed of 60 km/h.
The speed limit of 50 km/h will apply in urban areas from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
According to Sławomir Nowak, head of the national road agency in Ukraine the speed limit will significantly help reduce mortality on the roads.
Lowering the speed in urban areas by only 10 km/h will increase the chance of saving the lives of pedestrians in the event of an accident by 90 percent” – says Sławomir Nowak.
Road agency representatives say that this way the European safety standards will be introduced in Ukraine.
