Bring and Elonroad launch wireless fast charger trial for trucks in Malmö

Logistics company Bring, in collaboration with charging infrastructure company Elonroad, has started testing a new wireless fast-charging technology for trucks at Bring's terminal in Malmö.

The new charging system developed by Elonroad features a ground-level charging rail. When a lorry is parked above the rail, an energy receiver attached to the underside of the vehicle automatically lowers to initiate the charging process. This allows for immediate charging without requiring the driver to take additional steps.

“It will be exciting to pressure test the technology in our daily operations. The hope is to optimise the time at the terminal – with Elonroad’s solution, the truck can start charging as soon as the driver parks. For our drivers, this means they won’t need to think about charging; everything happens automatically,” said Hanna Jonasson, Director of Operations at Bring.

Bring has been working with Elonroad for three years and previously conducted a pilot test in Trondheim, Norway. This latest trial in Malmö marks the first test of the wireless fast charger on a heavy truck, delivering 150 kilowatts of power. The lorry involved in the trial is a Mercedes eActros, which has been modified with the required energy receiver in collaboration with engineers from Mercedes.

“By integrating Elonroad’s space-saving charging infrastructure at Bring, we demonstrate how sustainable solutions can streamline heavy transport logistics. Bring is already a leader in emission-free transport, and our technology supports their efforts to meet ambitious climate goals. With automated charging, we can reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency within their logistics network,” added Karin Ebbinghaus, CEO of Elonroad.

If the trial proves successful, Bring has indicated potential plans to expand the use of wireless fast chargers at other locations.
