The second-generation F-MAX, unveiled at the 2025 NUFAM commercial vehicle show in Karlsruhe, marks the next stage in the evolution of the model introduced in 2018. Ford Trucks claims fuel savings of up to 11.3% compared with the previous version – a noteworthy figure in times of rising operating costs.
The improvement is achieved through a series of aerodynamic upgrades: an active front-grille shutter regulates airflow for engine cooling, while A-pillar spoilers and smoother body lines help reduce drag. The digital camera mirrors, mounted on the doors instead of the roof edges, also improve airflow and provide a wider field of view both day and night.
According to the manufacturer, the combination of optimized aerodynamics and powertrain refinement results in noticeably lower CO₂ emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
New look, familiar heritage
Ford Trucks has also reworked the design. The revised grille in the so-called “Transconti style” recalls the legendary Ford Transcontinental of the 1970s. Colour-coordinated front sections, darkened headlights and cleaner lines give the new F-MAX a modern and distinctive appearance.
New Ecotorq Gen2 engine: more power, fewer revs
At the heart of the update is the second-generation 12.7-litre Ecotorq diesel engine, now delivering 510 hp and 2,600 Nm of torque – an increase of 10 hp and 100 Nm over its predecessor.
The automated 16-speed overdrive transmission lowers engine speed to around 1,200 rpm on motorways. In combination with new rear-axle ratios (2.31 or 2.17 for the F-MAX LL), this setup delivers quieter operation, longer service life and lower fuel consumption.
The engine is HVO100-compatible, meaning it can run entirely on synthetic, CO₂-reduced fuel without shortening maintenance intervals.
Service intervals of up to 120,000 km are designed to further reduce operating costs.
Digital cockpit and smart comfort
Inside, the F-MAX has gone fully digital. Instead of analogue dials and an ignition key, drivers now get:
- a 12-inch digital instrument cluster,
- a 4-inch multimedia touchscreen,
- an electronic parking brake, and
- a start/stop button.
A new voice assistant, supporting 13 languages, allows drivers to control the climate, radio and hands-free functions by speech. Many of these settings can also be adjusted from the bunk via a 7-inch rear-wall control panel.
With 13 m³ of cabin space, a large fridge, roof storage compartments and customisable ambient lighting, the F-MAX aims to set a new standard for comfort in long-haul trucking.
Safety and handling
Alongside efficiency and comfort, safety has also been enhanced. The digital mirror system improves visibility, while brake calipers with integrated pad springs reduce residual drag and fine-dust emissions.
An optional air suspension for the front axle cuts weight by 30 kilograms and, according to Ford Trucks, provides a smoother ride.
In terms of braking, the new F-MAX offers up to 1,000 kW of wear-free retarder power – setting a new benchmark for the long-haul segment.
Built for real-world operations
“The new F-MAX GEN 2.0 is a true efficiency package,” said Holger Hahn, Managing Director of F-Trucks Deutschland, during the NUFAM presentation in Karlsruhe. The company, he added, aims to “drive progress and strengthen partnerships” with the new model.
For transport operators, the modernised F-MAX stands out for its lower fuel use, extended maintenance intervals and improved driver comfort – combining economy with real-world practicality.
