DHL Group and Ford are further strengthening their long-standing partnership in the field of electric mobility. According to the company, a total of 2,400 new electric vans from Ford will be added to DHL’s delivery fleet in Germany by the end of 2025. Many of these vehicles – including the E-Transit and E-Transit Custom models – have already been delivered. This brings the total number of electric vans supplied by Ford to the Post & Parcel Germany division to 4,900. DHL’s entire delivery fleet currently includes around 35,000 electric vehicles.

Two models for different delivery needs

The Ford E-Transit is deployed for parcel deliveries in urban areas. With a cargo capacity of 18 m³, a 68 kWh battery, and a range of up to 315 km, it is well suited to city driving. A version with an 89 kWh battery offering a range of up to 402 km is also available. The more compact E-Transit Custom is used for combined deliveries in rural areas. It offers 6.8 m³ of load space, a 64 kWh battery, and a range of up to 328 km. Compared with similar combustion-engine vehicles, both models save an average of 4 tonnes of CO₂ and 1,200 litres of diesel per year.

Beyond the vehicle: Ford Pro as a system provider

Ford Pro offers more than just vehicles – it provides a comprehensive ecosystem. This includes connected telematics software, mobile servicing by specialist Ford technicians, and tailored maintenance packages. Approximately 70% of maintenance work can be carried out directly at DHL depots, significantly improving vehicle uptime. According to Ford Pro, this can add up to six extra operating hours per vehicle each month.

A long-term partnership focused on sustainability

Ford and DHL previously collaborated on a joint vehicle production facility in Cologne in 2018 and 2019. Their strategic partnership was officially renewed in 2022. The current initiative forms part of DHL Group’s “Strategy 2030”, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. By 2030, over 66% of first- and last-mile deliveries are to be carried out using electric vehicles.
